American Chop Suey Recipe – Made With Ground Turkey

So I’ve been on a little bit of a ground turkey kick lately. I’m trying to figure out new ways to use this leaner, filled with protein, ground meat. Back in high school, American Chop Suey was a specialty in the family of a friend of mine. I decided to take it for a little spin… and here is what I came up with.

 

American Chop Suey Recipe (Ground Turkey)

You will need: 

  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 1 c diced celery
  • 2 boxes Aunt Annie’s Mac and Cheese
  • milk
  • 1 can diced tomatoes
  • 1 can tomato sauce
  • 1/2 c. chicken broth or water
  • salt/pepper
  • 1 lb ground turkey
Saute’ your celery, onion, and pepper until the onions begin to become slightly translucent.
Add your ground turkey and brown the meat until it is cooked. While the turkey is cooking, mix the cheese sauce for the mac and cheese. Set cheese sauce aside.
Add the diced tomatoes and tomato sauce to the mixture in the pan. Stir.
Add noodles from mac and cheese, broth, and cheese sauce. Bring to a slight boil. Cover, reduce heat and simmer until pasta is cooked (about 25 minutes).
This is a great meal because everything can come all in one bowl. Veggies, meat, a little grain… and a lot of YUM!
